There are 4,371 students in need of school supplies in our 4 target areas: Barclayville, Betu, Grandcess, and Sasstown.
The teachers and principals of those 19 target schools need classroom supplies and equipment.
We have opened 4 libraries: The Dr. Sean & Nancy Hunt Library (Betu) The John Wilmont Wleh Nimene Library (Sasstown), The Rev. Fr. Thomas Dominic Donohue Library (Barclayville), and The VAN Community Outreach Library (Grandcess). The libraries serve 19 schools, over 4000 students, and more than 175 teachers in Grand Kru County (Read more about the libraries here). These libraries currently need:
- 8 additional tables – 2 tables per library
- 48 additional chairs – 12 chairs per library
- 20 computers/laptops (new/used) – 5 computers per library
- 4 First Aid kits – 1 kit per library
Future Education Enrichment Projects:
A Computer Literacy Program is in development for each of the 4 libraries. We plan to download programs to teach typing skills, Windows and Microsoft Office operation, and internet navigation to Grand Kru students. Through this program, we hope to give the students more tools to supplement their educational and research needs. VANCO is in the process of recruiting local technology staff to conduct these computer training sessions. For the program, we hope to have 5 computers in each library.
Home Economics classes were requested by the students of Barclayville. This will require equipment and supplies for: sewing, tie dying, bread making, and food preparation.
Early Childhood Education Program was also requested by Barclayville students, so that children have fundamental knowledge before starting primary school. Such a program will require books, chalkboards, crayons, pencils, notebooks, glue, etc.
